Benefits of walking

Upton Lea Park post 1

Did you know that parks are a great place to find wildlife, bugs and insects? Have you spotted any yet? You might even spot a Red Kite! Red Kites are some of the biggest birds in England and they can be spotted across Berkshire, including the parks in Slough. Keep an eye out for their forked tail and red colours.

The Poetry Journey – celebrating National Poetry day 2020

Slough Borough Council’s Libraries and Culture Service, in partnership with Public Health Slough, has created a poetry journey to inspire you as you enjoy your Active Park Walk.

At each of the six posts you’ll unlock a beautiful poem to listen to or read. Complete your walk to reveal all six poems for your chance to enter a prize draw to win a bundle of books.

We hope these works encourage you to read more poetry, or even write your own.

There’s lots more to explore with Slough Libraries and Culture, including a full programme of online activities for all ages, plus ereading and other digital resources to enjoy at home. You can also access books via our click and collect service – so why not order a selection of poetry books?

Your immune system fact 2 of 6

The flu vaccine is the most effective way of preventing against the flu. The vaccine helps your ‘innate’ immune system develop a memory for the virus. Crucially the vaccine can not give you the flu and protects against a virus that kills nearly 10,000 people in the UK every year (A third of them are otherwise healthy individuals!) Protect yourself and protect your loved ones by getting #IamVaccinated
